Data infrastructure for Stellar.
What we do
We ingest every trade on the Stellar network — on-chain DEXes (Soroswap, Phoenix, Aquarius, SDEX, Comet), classic SDEX orderbooks, lending protocol auctions (Blend), and major centralised exchanges (Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, Bitstamp) — and serve a single VWAP through a public REST + SSE API. Oracles (Reflector, Redstone, Band) get cross-checked but never priced into the canonical VWAP. Everything is documented down to the source code, the methodology, and the architecture decisions.
How we ship
- •Apache-2.0. The whole codebase — backend, explorer, status site, widgets, infrastructure-as-code — is on GitHub under the most permissive license that still preserves attribution. Run your own copy if you want; we'd prefer you didn't need to.
- •One region today; three by design. Stellar Index runs from a single region (R1, Hetzner FSN1 in Falkenstein), with off-site encrypted Postgres backups and a tested restore drill. Three-region active/active for the pricing tier is ratified in ADR-0050 and scheduled after v1.0 — the failover roles are written but deployed nowhere, and we do not claim multi-region availability today. The property that makes it work when it lands is already in the serving contract: closed-bucket determinism (ADR-0015) means any region answering the same query returns the same rate. The three-validator target is ADR-0004; we run no validator yet.
- •Public-first. Anonymous reads work without an account. The free tier covers prototyping, low-traffic embeds, and read-only integrations. Higher rate limits and dedicated SLAs are staff-set partner arrangements — never gated data.
- •Honest about what we don't have. Forex is currently a daily-grain shim while we wire a proper feed. Soroban DEX TVL is served only where real post-state reserves exist — Soroswap and Aquarius from pool reserves, Phoenix and Comet from the pools' on-chain storage entries (their events carry flow deltas, which we never dress up as a TVL) — and is an explicit lower bound whenever a pool leg can't be priced. Native SDEX liquidity pools aren't valued yet. CEX order-book depth isn't ingested (the native SDEX book is). The /methodology page documents how each number is computed and which sources feed it.
Funding
Development was supported by a grant from the Stellar Community Fund. The platform is free — there are no paid tiers; the public tier and the open-source codebase are perpetual commitments.
What's next
We're still pre-v1 and shipping continuously rather than against a fixed date. The roadmap that gets us to v1 lives in v1-launch-plan.md; per-release notes accumulate in /changelog. Post-v1 priorities — CEX order-book depth ingest, reserve-derived TVL for the remaining DEXes, and deeper per-protocol coverage across every major Stellar protocol — are public in the same plan. Stellar Index is deliberately a Stellar-only explorer: depth on one network over breadth across many.
